Team Liquid's Asian & Pacific Islander Food Zine

Pro gamers are hungry for the taste of victory. Fans are hungry for spicy banter and even spicier plays. But at the end of the day…we’re all hungry. Like, literally hungry. For food.

Throughout the years, esports has gradually developed its own type of culture within its vast ecosystem. One of the most pivotal cultural aspects is finding the most optimal place for grub, either before or after watching pro gamers battle each other to add a win to their pockets. There’s just something about the coffee and egg sandwich you get before the big Major that gets you amped up for what’s to come. And when everything’s all said and done, the only 5-man you’re thinking about is the table you've reserved at the nearest KBBQ spot.

At Team Liquid, we’re very familiar with enjoying food with our friends and loved ones during esports matches. More specifically, we have our own stories surrounding food and community. That’s why we’ve decided to put together our first ever Asian & Pacific Islander (API) Food Zine!

This project is an anthology of API recipes & food experiences within esports, focused within the Team Liquid community to demonstrate & celebrate how much Asian culture has touched our community - through our stomachs. We want everyone to celebrate API culture within esports and show that Asian culture fosters our community beyond the competitive scene.

Nothing brings people together quite like food - but esports has gotta be up there too, right? Either way, we’re super proud of everyone coming together under the Liquid banner, whether it’s during a big event or at the dinner table afterwards. Consider this food zine as our shoutout to you, the community. Thanks for everything and Happy Asian & Pacific Islander Heritage Month!

The Liquid Review - March 2023 If you asked a Team Liquid fan how the Cavalry did in February, you’d get drastically different answers depending on what games they follow. A CS:GO fan might give you a cautiously optimistic take that Liquid is a solidly top-ten team and a dark horse to win any tournament we go to. On the other hand, a League fan might be frustrated that we’ve failed to close out a lot of winnable games, and a little worried about our chances at making playoffs. Or you could ask a deliriously happy DotA fan, who would tell you with complete confidence that Team Liquid is the best team in the world, destined to win the Lima Major.
The Black Roots of the Fighting Game Community Despite how diverse gaming is, there's no denying that in most esports, there's a real lack of Black titles. Most titles, but not the Fighting Game Community - or FGC for short. The world of fighting games is much more diverse than most esports - and not only more Black, but more influenced by Black culture, athletes, and talent. Why is that? De'Angelo Epps asked community figures Majin Obama, Salt, and Professor High Kick to find out - and to find out the areas where the FGC still needs a little work.
