Parting Ways with Salem

February 27 2019

After a modest start to 2019 with Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, we are parting ways with Saleem "Salem" Akiel Young.

Salem has spent his Super Smash Bros. careers making noteworthy plays in Smash 4 and Ultimate with out of this world Bayo plays. Last year, he earned silver at Smash 'N' Splash 4, before taking home the title at Shine 2018. He then placed third in Smash Conference United, an early tournament for Ultimate.

When asked about Ultimate’s effect on the pro Smash community, Salem said, “This is a game that will bring the entire Smash community together.”

Despite being a Melee guy, Coach Crunch said that he’s gotten to know Ultimate more through speaking with Salem about game theory, learning his thoughts on the game and its different characters.

It’s that love for the game that helped Salem shine in his recent duos, crushing the competition at GENESIS 6 and Smash Conference United with Dark Wizzy by his side. We were thrilled to have been there for not only these wins, but to see all of his research pay off when he dominated with fighters he newly picked up for Ultimate.

We wish Salem the best as he continues to prove himself in the Ultimate competitive scene.
