Liquipedia is the web’s leading website for esports information. We are expanding our development team in the Netherlands to keep up with evolving technologies and to create a better platform for our contributors and for our visitors.
One (1) Junior Backend Wiki Developer
Job Title: Junior Backend Wiki Developer.
Type: Full Time.
Location: Utrecht, NL.
Reports to: Head of Liquipedia, Lead Developer.
What you’ll be doing:
- Code backend extensions for MediaWiki using PHP.
- Integrate backend with the HTML front end.
- Create and maintain database schemas.
- Perform maintenance work on existing code base.
- Get input and feedback from stakeholders (both from volunteers and employees) and implement suggestions and course correct as needed.
- Contribute positively to office atmosphere.
What you should have:
- Interest in esports is essential.
- Ability to relocate permanently to Utrecht, NL highly preferred. EU citizens with the applicable visas highly preferred.
- Fluency in written and verbal English.
- A strong understanding of PHP or basic understanding of PHP and a strong understanding of another object oriented language (like: Java or C#)
- A basic understanding of frontend technologies (HTML, CSS, and JavaScript).
- A basic understanding of SQL.
- Familiarity with git version control.
- Eagerness to learn new skills.

What you’ll be doing:
- Code backend extensions for MediaWiki using PHP and integrate with and develop the frontend.
- Create and maintain database schemas.
- Perform maintenance and optimization work on existing code base.
- Get input and feedback from stakeholders (both from volunteers and employees) and implement suggestions and course correct as needed.
- Contribute positively to office atmosphere.
What you should have:
- Interest in esports is essential.
- Ability to relocate permanently to Utrecht, Netherlands.
- Fluency in written and verbal English.
- Experience in PHP development with a strong understanding of the language.
- A basic understanding of SQL.
- Experience with and strong understanding of frontend technologies (HTML, JavaScript, CSS, and less/scss).
- Familiarity with git version control.
- Familiarity with bootstrap 4 is a bonus but not a requirement.
- Eagerness to learn new skills.
