Snute Wins WCS Copa Intercontinental

September 12 2016
Before arriving in Mexico City, it had already been a successful year for Snute. Yet one thing was missing: a "WCS" title. After placing 2nd in WCS Winter and facing disappointment in Spring and Summer, it looked as though it would evade Snute in 2016. A win at Neo StarLeague in Shanghai in August would be a sort of revival for Snute, and while he felt that his condition was not the best, the results began to come. He qualified for WCS Copa Intercontinental a week and a half after his first Major title of the year, and there came his opportunity to claim that elusive WCS title.

First was the enigma known as Has, a potential speedbump for even the most clairvoyant of Zergs. Yet Snute had no trouble dispatching the wily Taiwanese in 3 straight games. Another Protoss came next—a greater challenge than the last. Neeb is undoubtedly the breakout star of 2016, but he was still waiting for his first title. In 3 more games Snute appeared unstoppable, and the sweep was afoot.

In the final against ShoWTimE, Snute showed why many consider him one of the smartest Zergs on the planet. Every single win was impressive, displaying both guile and poise. He took control of the series from the get-go, and conquered his third straight Protoss opponent 4-2. A total map score of 10-2 in ZvP, a matchup he had been struggling in? No problem.

Snute's trophy at WCS Intercontinental catapults him to 3rd in the WCS Circuit rankings, and takes his tally to over $90,000 for the year. He has now won the most prize money in StarCraft 2 this year (by a ~$15k margin), but there's more to come. The KeSPA Cup qualifiers offer a chance for more points and more prize money, while Liquid's Norse God has booked his ticket to BlizzCon. We're still going to see more of Snute in 2016, but for now, we celebrate.

Congratulations, Snute!
