Liquid's Whispers of the Old Gods Card Reveal

April 12 2016

Auchenai effect in a spell! Pretty cool to have as an option, however, for "serious decks" it is hard to see Embrace the Shadow replacing Auchenai Soulpriest. It may also be hard to fit in both. That said, it will be interesting to see if this finds a place.

This card seems bad with Light of the Naaru gone. If Blizzard adds some more healing spells you could make a combo deck along with Prophet Velen and Flash Heals. This deck could even cut the useless Mindblasts. Basically Velen-Embrace the Shadows-Flash Heal-a new heal spell could be a lot of burst.

In control decks, it won't probably see play because this effect isn't worth its mana cost compared to Auchenai Soulpriest.

Embrace the Shadow is a faster version of Auchenai Soul Priest. It's card disadvantage in the sense that it doesn't give you a 3/5 on the board. On the other hand, it allows you to Circle combo on turn two which could be crucial against a fast Murloc start.

I can see this being played as a one-of to compliment as an extra Auchenai.

Seems expensive for what it does. Auchenai is almost always better because of the body and there is no crazy combo you could use with this over Auchenai. Most of the healing spells are really cheap as is. In terms of Circle of Healing synergy, one would ever need to circle on turn two to use this card on curve. Off curve, Embrace the Shadows provides no advantage aside from not leaving the Auchenai on the board in case you want to heal next turn.

That upside is negligible, however, since most of the time because getting board control is more important.
