Liquid explore Blizzcon

November 11 2015
Another year, another Blizzcon. This time around, Blizzard’s largest annual event hosted some wicked announcements, a gratuitous amount of esports, and set the foundation for all the good things that happen when a community bands together. And like every year, Team Liquid got in on a lot of this action. While there were some pre-con heartbreaks, that didn’t stop the organization from taking part in the festivities to have a little fun—really, that’s all that matters!

The whole

If you’ve never been to a convention, I recommend you experience at least one. The thought of being crammed with a bunch of people inside a convention hall may seem unappealing, but there’s an indescribable flow of positive energy one can feed off of once inside. The cosplay, the passion—you can see happiness everywhere you go. Here’s what a few of our first timers had to say:

TL Halo pro Tyler “Ninja” Blevins:

"This was my first Blizzcon ever and I have to say, I was blown away by how incredible and lively the atmosphere was both days of the event. The StarCraft II Finals and all the Cosplaying were my two favorite things all weekend! It is crazy to see how much time and effort people put into their designs to show their passion for Blizzard games."

TL Starcraft Pro Grzegorz “MaNa” Komincz:

“Blizzcon definitely met my expectations. It was spectacular. I enjoyed visiting the event my first time even though I was not a player there. The amount of work Blizzard puts into this event is incredible. I enjoyed the WCS arena the most; however every experience with Blizzcon was good. I started with staying in the queue for the Blizzstore and ended with the WCS arena. There were also amazing figures of Kerrigan, Raynor, Illidan and others that fascinated me a lot scattered across the convention halls.”

The Esports

And while Blizzcon is a time for announcements, it’s also a time for the best of the best to duke it out in a battle for global supremacy. Every year since the inception of Blizzcon, the world finals for each one of their respective games would be hosted. With Blizzard growing, so does their esports; the event held world championships for Hearthstone, StarCraft II, World of Warcraft, and Heroes of the Storm. I won’t go into detail (but you can check out TeamLiquid.net for details if you’d like)!

At every corner of the internet, I’ve seen cries of Starcraft’s demise. But not at Blizzcon. Esports itself was built on the foundation of community effort. Therefore, it will live or die by the community. And at the Starcraft 2 world championships, those who filled the esports arena didn’t seem to care about the darkness that shrouded us the last couple of weeks—it simply did not exist. Cheering fans, hard-fought battles, and anticipation for Legacy of the Void. This. Is. Esports.
