TL Smash Raids Paragon

September 04 2015

In the next two days, Los Angeles will claim host to the biggest Smash tournament since this year's Evolution Championship Series. Paragon, the second of its name, is gearing up to deliver a show that will rival most.

In January, our very own Hungrybox took the Paragon title without dropping a single set, defeating Mew2King 3-0 in the grand finals to take home the prize. After coming off a smoking performance at EVO in which he earned second, Hungrybox is aiming for back-to-back Paragon championships. The competition will be steep with the majority of the world's top players in attendance, but as the rested Jigglypuff has proven time and again, there is no player that he can't defeat. The gold is in his sights.

The King of Smash returns to his first big tournament since his stunning performance at EVO where he notched top 16. After defeating players such as Westballz and Santiago at the year's biggest event, Ken is hoping to take his momentum with him to Paragon. Fresh off of his short break, the classic Marth is looking for a deeper run this tournament. With better preparation as his backbone, upsets will be abound.

Our chill Fox is pumped to prove himself at the West Coast major. With more efficient practice and higher confidence, Chillin is aiming for a high finish. After a string of disappointing results (by his standards), there may be no one more motivated to step up his game than Chillin. Unlike his results suggest, the Fox main is still a solid player and remains a beloved figure in the community. He will look to channel his experiences and his character (in and out of the game) come Saturday to boost him towards a top eight finish.

Widely seen as the second best Smash 4 player only after ZeRo, the undefeated champion of 46 consecutive tournaments, Nairo is the people's favorite when it comes to potentially slaying ZeRo's and his ridiculous win-streak. Unfortunately for Nairo, despite coming out hot off his first Smash 4 national championship at SKTAR 4, he will have to wait for the next Smash 4 major, The Big House 5, to get his chance as ZeRo won't be in attendance.

This ZeRo-less major, however, is the perfect opportunity for Nairo to climb ahead. Tied in achievements with Mr. R and losing to him in Losers' Finals at EVO 2015, Nairo himself said he can't claim he is the second best just yet. But with nearly every other top player from EVO 2015 including Mr. R confirmed for attendance, combined with the absence of an increasingly fatigued ZeRo, a victory at Paragon will not only allow Nairo to rid people's doubt of whether he is the second best, but may also mark the beginning of a new era.
