Next Up: Seattle

August 26 2015

The end of August has proved monumental for our Heroes squad. This past weekend, the team stormed through the Round of 8 of the second European qualifier of the month. Thanks to this win, the team earned a spot at the European Regional Championship in Prague at the beginning of October alongside Virtus.pro, Natus Vincere, Team ROCCAT and Gamers2.

“We were more relaxed because we knew we had a second chance if we needed it,” said FalcoN, the team's carry role as he referred to the possibility of a lower bracket run. Fortunately, they didn’t need it. Liquid swept through the upper bracket without dropping a set.

Heading into Prague, the team is planning to bootcamp at the Liquid headquarters in the Netherlands. “We have confidence on LAN because we’ve won every single tournament we’ve played,” FalcoN said. “But it’s not like okay, go there and just wreck everyone. We have work to do. Practice, practice, practice; analyze our rivals; adapt to every single patch instantly; fix our mistakes; keep practicing; and then go there and do our best as always. There is always work to do.”

But before that, the team is headed to Seattle, Washington to play in the first ever international tournament for Heroes of the Storm called Master Gaming Arena, hosted by MSI. In the first round, Liquid will be up against myRevenge.ks, a team hailing from the Southeast Asian country of Singapore.

“Korea is strong for sure. They are on the same level as Europe or possibly better,” FalcoN said in regards to the competition he is looking forward to at the event. “I think NA has a few good teams, but I think the difference between EU and NA is that NA has two top teams (Cloud9 and Tempo Storm), whereas EU has six or seven top teams."

The competition between North America and Europe has been the subject of internet chatter for some time now. “Everyone can beat everyone,” FalcoN reminds us. “TL, Na`Vi, G2, BOB, Puszek, Fnatic, Roccat... So yeah, that's my opinion. Maybe USA has the best team, maybe EU—who knows—but EU has a lot of more competitive teams who can beat everyone.”

The team recently flew from Spain to Seattle, a lengthy flight for the team. ”This is my third time traveling to the USA for an international tournament, and I'm only a little bit worried about jet lag because I have bad experiences with it in the past,” FalcoN explained. “But we should be fine, because we have a couple of days to adapt and reset. I hope there are a few teams from NA who want to practice with us those two days!”

Be sure to fill out your predictions for the event over at the MSI MGA Bracket Contest for your chance to win a Gaming PC courtesy of MSI, as well as some other sweet prizes.
