Team Liquid place 1st in NA LCS Summer Split

July 29 2015

After plenty of ups and downs, Team Liquid would finalize their position as the 1st place seed in the NA LCS Summer Split, a placing that eluded us since the inception of the squad as Curse Gaming.

Stunning play from the squad all-around, the team would beat out Team Dragon Knights on Day 1 of Week 9 then proceed to beat Team Impulse in an absolute nail-biter of a match on Day 2. (A match you really should watch if you haven’t already). “We really tried to play standard like we always do against Impulse but we pushed it,” IwillDominate told Riot in a post-match interview.

With the matches finalized, Team Liquid was forced to enter into a tiebreaker to decide 1st place against Counter Logic Gaming. Both teams want it, as the 1st place seed always seemed to be out of reach for both these top teams.

In a back-and-forth battle that would eventually end in Team Liquid’s better utilization of their composition, TL would take the win from CLG; ending the Split in what might be one of the best rise-to-victory stories in eSports.

“I think this the most the team has actually felt like a team,” Xpecial told Riot following their victory against CLG. “We’re motivated for [Worlds] and it’s really showing.

Prior to the Summer Split, the team faltered a lot in the Spring Split, placing a disappointing 6th place involving a tiebreaker that decided our fate of being in play-offs or not. From there, we’d show our worth and place a stunning 3rd in the Play-offs after knocking out CLG in a 3-0 sweep, breaking the curse of consistently placing 4th every year.

With the team ending in 1st going in to the Summer Play-offs, that only spells great things for the team moving forward.

As for the Summer Play-offs, we play the winner of Team SoloMid vs Team Gravity on August 16 in a best of 5 series. From there, the target goal is to go to Madison Square Garden for NA Finals.

Don’t forget to cheer for the team on August 16! #TLWIN
