The Review: Payday: The Heist

Living the life of a bank robber ain’t easy. You have to plan your heists ahead of schedule. Then you have to haul all sorts of heavy equipment like power drills and ammunition around without being spotted. Lastly, you have to execute the mission and get away without a trace. All this seems difficult but Payday: The Heist will teach you how.

Payday is a fun, tactical, mission-based cooperative game where you, and your friends should you choose, rob banks. You plan your heists, scan the area, and plot the best possible strategies to net you the most amount of cash possible. Sure, you can choose to be a smart robber and do things without a trace but you can also be mindless, and violently carry-out your plans.

Once a heist is selected, you are dropped into the area in safe mode. Here, you may enter civilian populated areas and plan your attack—how much planning is determined by your “suspicion”, a meter that fills the more people feel you’re doing something weird. Once you’ve planned out how things are going to roll out, you put on your mask and become a villain. Once that happens your suspicion meter will skyrocket and just the mere sight of you will cause people to panic and have security guns blazing.

While some may say Payday is just another shooter, well, they’d be right. But admit it, there are times where you wished you could put the PvP away for a bit and slay dozens of NPCs instead with a bunch of buddies. While the concept isn’t like Horde Mode from Gears of War or Zombies from Call of Duty, the mission-based aspects of Payday are thrilling and kept me and my friends playing for hours.

Payday is just one of those games that brings your friends together for some good ole’ co-op. Not quite the couch co-op like Guantlet and Reckoning, but honestly, it’s fun to just go out and rob banks (virtually). There isn't much you can do with $2 but at the G2A sale, purchasing Payday and having hours of fun is only $2 away. It’s a great pick-up if you have buddies to roll with. If you’re by yourself, well, you may want to make some friends for this one.
